Why does my bishop believe people choose to be gay. I really don't understand this one at all. He should believe differently as he has gay members in his family. I don't ever remember choosing to be gay. It's like saying we all choose at some time in our life if we are either homosexual or heterosexual. I don't remember any day like that in my life ever. I have always known.

I believe that to be a bishop you don't get to choose your beliefs.
But many only believe what they think they are suppose to believe which may actually be a misinterpretation of what they are told to believe.
At least that's how I've had to think about it to make sense of all the inconsistency in the church.
And then there is the schematics on if one is talking about feelings, which some people believe don't necessarily make you gay, and behavior which is gay.
It's really funny to me. Being gay or non-gay or somewhere in the middle is really not that complicated. Trying to manipulate the real world to fit a belief makes it all complicated.
shaking head. nodding in empathy. patting on the back.
Oh come on Bror, don't you remember that day back in 1969? How could you forget?
I don't know your bishop, or what he has said to you, but I think the general feeling among members now isn't that you choose to be gay. It is that we choose to stay gay. That if we really wanted to change we could.
He probably doesn't think people choose to be straight. He probably thinks that all people are straight and some of them choose to be gay. and partake in all those wonderful blessings that being gay comes with.... oh wait!
@ tgd, It is so complicated. I totally agree. Thanks for your comment.
@ marriedtoamoho, Thanks for the pat on the back. It's nice.
@ Brovone, I don't remember that day back in 1969? Enlighten me my friend.
@ Good to be free, Yes, and that is so frustrating for me. I have felt so much better about myself since realizing I'm not choosing to be gay, this is me. I don't believe I can change it at all.
@ BB For sure, why would anyone choose to be gay? It doesn't make sense at all.
I know! We choose to be gay because we hate ourselves and want to heap abuse and hatred on our heads!
Ask you're bishop when he chose to be heterosexual.
I agree with Troy. Does the bish remember when he decided to be straight? Sounds like he is listening to Dr Laura. God made us. He made you with the challenges you face. Cool, huh? And stop knocking my sofa.
Why do you still have an LDS bishop is more relevant question. There are plenty of decent churches out there...
